Homemade Ranch Dip

Since I live in Colorado, everywhere I look at the moment has Super Bowl fever (for those of you that don't follow American football, the Colorado team is going to the big yearly playoff game this weekend). Orange flags peep through the snow, and all the grocery stores are stocked up with party snacks.

I myself am not much of a football watcher. In fact, I honestly have no idea how the game is played so I feel frustrated whenever superbowl season comes around because I feel lost throughout the whole game. But, parties are always fun and so this year I decided to try to get into the spirit by making my own homemade ranch dip. I know this has nothing to do with the game, but by bringing something homemade to the party I will feel more connected to everyone there even though I don't know anything about the game or it's players.

Making this dip is really easy, and by making it from scratch rather than just buying it pre-made you'll have the added benefit of knowing every single ingredient that's in it - no weird chemicals here! For best results, make this dip one or two days ahead of time to give the flavors time to develop and to let the dip thicken a bit.

-------------------------------------

Herbed Buttermilk Dip

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise (as fresh and unprocessed as possible such as just mayo, or you can try making your own!)

  • 3/4 cup sour cream

  • 1/2 cup buttermilk, well shaken

  • 3 Tablespoons of fresh (or 1 Tablespoon dried) minced parsley

  • 1/8 teaspoon of dried (or 1/2 teaspoon fresh) minced dill

  • 1Tablespoon of fresh chives (optional)

  • 1/2 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar

  • 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper

In a medium bowl, mix together mayonnaise, sour cream and buttermilk until all the lumps are gone. Then, stir in the rest of the ingredients until everything is blended together well. Cover and refrigerate at least 5 hours to let the flavors develop and to let the dip thicken. Serve with your favorite crudités, chips, fries, etc!

-------------------------------------

You don't have to watch football to make this dip, either. It's great for any party or potluck, and I can guarantee everyone will be asking you for the recipe!
